Resultado de imagen para ties that bind ties that breakNamioka was born in Beijing, China on June 14th, 1929. She is the daughter of linguist Yuenren Chao and physician Buwei Yang Chao. When Namioka was nine years old, she and her family moved to the United States. There, she attended University of California, Berkeley, where she studied mathematics and where she first met her future husband, Isaac Namioka. They got married and they had two daughters, Aki and Michi.
When Namioka was eight, she wrote her first book. Then, as an adult, she wrote her first published stories about the adventures of two samurai (warriors) in sixteenth-century Japan. She also has written several books about adventure stories and young women and girls facing difficult choices.
Namioka has won many awards for her work. For instance, Ties That Bind, Ties That Break was named one of the American Library Association's 10 Best Books for Young People.
