Lensey Namioka Chao
She is a Chinese American writer, she was born in 1929 on the 14th
June, in Beijing, China, and she is the daughter linguist Yueren Chao and
physician Buwei Yang Chao.
In 1937, she and her family were living in Nanjing, where they had to
face Japanese Invasion, for that they eventually made their way to Hawaii, then
Cambridge, and Massachusetts. Namioka Chao attended high school in Cambridge
and then she attended the University of Califonia at Berkeley, where she ended
up a bachelor and degree in math; at University she met Isaac Namioka her
husband.
Namioka Chao showed her love for reading and writing adventures stories,
at the age of eight, she wrote her first writing work, as a scrap paper. In the
1970s, she visited Namioka Castle and this experience inspired her to write
about her first book published at 1976 called Samurai; some books she had wrote
are: White Serpent Castle ( McKay 1976),
Japan: a traveler’s Companion (1976), Valley of the Broken Cherry Trees (1980),
Who’s HU ( 1980)
