Theme and significance

Students,

Here are three new questions for the reading project related to Ties that bind, ties that break.

1. Theme. Several themes may be dealt with in this book. List and explain them.

2. The significance of this book in the literary world, at the time it was published and thereafter
3. The significance of the title

What is a theme?

The implementation of the word "theme" belongs more to the world of literature and art and is the opinion expressed on a subject. It is the underlying idea, image or motif which unifies the whole and is repeated or developed throughout the work.

Another way to look at it would be to say it is the "root", i.e. the fundamental or essential aspect of the work.

On the following resource you'll find a broader definition on Theme.

Here is a comprehensive resource on literary devices in case you want to deepen into the literary elements.

You have until March 21st 2017 to post your answers.

Best regards,

Felipe
